The Lawlyes Log

The Lawlyes Family experienced a lot of changes in the last year. Last December our first grandchild, Benjamin was born to Becky and Matt, becoming the new center of our universe. Sara graduated from law school and relocated to Long Beach, CA and is working for the U.S. Air Force. Carolyn and Larry retired and moved to Prescott, AZ. Staying in touch with each other and our friends is a challenge and a priority. This log will help us share the new unfolding chapters of our lives.

Big Ben Hits Town

Prescott is still reeling from the whirlwind that hit last week when Benji Lawlyes came to town. This continual motion machine brought joy and sunshine to the desert at the height of the monsoon season. It was non-stop action the whole time he was here.

There were trees to be climbed ...

Helicopters to be flown ...

Cars to be driven ...

Kayaks to be paddled ...

Girls to be flirted with in Japanese restaurants ...

Friendships to be made in the town square ...

Hikes to be taken ...

Rocks to be thrown in lakes ...

Pools to be splashed in ...

Gravity to overcome ...

and naps to be taken after busy days.

Remembering Lucky

Today was a sad day. We had to put Lucky, our German Shepherd - Collie mix, down. He was a part of our family for nearly six years.

Lucky was rescued by our son, Matt. In that sense, he was very lucky. He must have been abused at some point in his life. He was never able to get over his dislike of being touched around his head. I think he equated that with being mistreated. But ever since Matt brought him home we tried to give him a good home and make up what had been done to him earlier.

In this last year he got to the point that he liked to "wrestle" with me. He would put his head under my arm like he was in a headlock. It was his way of getting his ears rubbed. So we made progress.

He really was a gentle soul despite those problems. He did like to be near us. He followed Carolyn and me throughout the house to keep an eye on what we were doing. He was very patient around the cats and never tried to bother them.

Lucky-Boy will be remembered warmly and missed always.
