Remembering Lucky
Today was a sad day. We had to put Lucky, our German Shepherd - Collie mix, down. He was a part of our family for nearly six years.
Lucky was rescued by our son, Matt. In that sense, he was very lucky. He must have been abused at some point in his life. He was never able to get over his dislike of being touched around his head. I think he equated that with being mistreated. But ever since Matt brought him home we tried to give him a good home and make up what had been done to him earlier.
In this last year he got to the point that he liked to "wrestle" with me. He would put his head under my arm like he was in a headlock. It was his way of getting his ears rubbed. So we made progress.
He really was a gentle soul despite those problems. He did like to be near us. He followed Carolyn and me throughout the house to keep an eye on what we were doing. He was very patient around the cats and never tried to bother them.
Lucky-Boy will be remembered warmly and missed always.
