The Lawlyes Log

The Lawlyes Family experienced a lot of changes in the last year. Last December our first grandchild, Benjamin was born to Becky and Matt, becoming the new center of our universe. Sara graduated from law school and relocated to Long Beach, CA and is working for the U.S. Air Force. Carolyn and Larry retired and moved to Prescott, AZ. Staying in touch with each other and our friends is a challenge and a priority. This log will help us share the new unfolding chapters of our lives.

Iris Show in Prescott

A couple of weeks ago, Carolyn and I attended an Iris show here in Prescott at a local nursery.

Although neither of us know much about Irises, we enjoyed seeing the displays.

There was a competition for the best arrangement.

This was the one we voted for. Carolyn says it has a "minimalist Oriental flair." I just like purple.

There was also a competition for favorite variety. I liked the Witch's Wand Iris. (Hmmmm purple!)

Carolyn had other favorites including this Iris --Victoria Rosa ...

... and this Bargudo Batik Iris.

I never knew there were so many varieties and this was only a small sampling.

Iris is amazingly happy up in this dryish country! I've seen stands of standard purple iris still blooming each spring in a weedy yard where the house obviously burned down tens of years ago.
